Is it a good idea to go to Barbados in May or early June? I'll be free during that time and I really want to go to Barbados.

Either month is a good month in May you can take in good weather, the Barbados Gospel festival, some Rally Race car action and the usualy fun attractions, nightlife and restaurants. In Jun you'll be just in time for the early events of the Crop over festival, plus all the other bonusses mentioned before.
