I was wondering if i should do a guided tour to Costa Rica or a land and car rental vacation. Ive seen alot of self guided type tours but i was thinking a guided tour might be nicer. Has anyone been to this area and what could they recommend. Is is safe to travel solo or would i be better off in a group? Does being a single woman matter here? Should i travel with a partner?

Well, personally I would say you should travel with someone else you trust. There are many locals in Costa Rica that can take advantage of someone, especially a woman. You should probably choose to rent a car just for safety and then get a guide for the tours of your choice.

I agree, but I'm not sure a car adds safety. You have to worry about real or imagined damages to the car when you return it. You have to worry about the tire puncture scams if you are in the cities. You have to worry about your stuff being robbed when you stop. You have to worry about the driving. Just wait till you are on a 2 lane winding mountain road with no guardrails and a semi decides to pass you going up (ie a very slow moving truck) on a blind corner! Maybe it is near San Ramon and there is thick fog too. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
