I am still searching for the perfect vacation spot and am looking for more information on Costa Rica. Are there any good tourist attractions near some of the better hotels?

Most of the great tours involve some travel away from San Jose. Although Costa Rica is a very small country and distances are short, travel times are long (small, mountain roads in poor condition). You'll find the country so exciting that it's best not to make too detailed plans to start with. For example, Arenal Volcano. If you see it erupt the first night you are there you might want to stay just one night. If you don't it might be good to stay a couple days. My recommendation would be to find a nice bed and breakfast near the airport. Plan a couple nights there (so you can explore that area) and your last night (all the flights leave too early in the morning to stay anywhere but near the airport). Plan the rest of your trip with the help of the B&B.

There is another great forum all about Costa Rica. Not just for tourists, but those americans that live in Costa Rica and those who are considering it. It is a great place for questions about things to do (and things to avoid) in Costa Rica.

Thanks for the information. I had a chance to check out that forum and it has some great tips on it. I never considered a bed and breakfast before. They are usually nice to stay out and I think being near the country would be an added bonus.

Costa Rica has some great canopy tours so you can check out the exotic animals. They have some working volcanoes as well that you might want to check out. Plus, of course there are beaches. But, Costa Rica isn't one of the safest places to go. Very cheap vacation though!

My parents went to Costa Rica. I don't remember where they stayed. I don't think it was one of their favorite vacation spots, though because they didn't go back and have no plans to.

The Caribbean is a paradise for a lot of people. I have heard rumors of its beauty and I know from my geography classes that it is a perfect location for those who seek adventure, lovely beaches, fresh green surroundings and more. so don't hesitate to go for that vacation, if i have that chance, i'd go for it. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
