Some years ago my granddad traveled around the world on a freighter. I wish I could remember which one, but the name escapes me. Because he's a navy man, he was made an officer on the ship. The crew kept talking German and GD finally cursed at them and told them he speaks German too. He had a lot of health crises on board and interesting experiences but great card and a FABulous time.

Sound like your grandad had a great experience! I never thought of traveling around the world on a freightliner. I wonder if it would be as luxurious as a cruise boat.

I don't think I could have done that. It seems like your granddad had the time of his life. I guess I am just used to the comfortables of a cruise ship. LOL I don't think I could rough it on a freighter.

Great story! Did your granddad share the story? You should listen to your grandfather because older people are very wise. So his crew members didn't know he spoke the same language? Was your granddad from the U.S.?
