Myths regarding the culture? • Page 1 (Original Post) •

I haven't heard of too many people who have gone to Haiti for a vacation but I wouldn't be opposed to it. I was wondering about some of the myths regarding the religious culture. Are any of them true?

I think often tourists are pretty isolated from the local culture of the Islands. For example, if you visit Haiti you probably won't cross their religious and mythical cultures.

Are you talking voodoo myths? I would think they would have some great tours to promo that "flavor" of the culture. Again though it wouldnt be my first choice on vacation. For some reason i have a bad negative image in my head of the place.

I guess from so many of the movies that I have watched Haiti has gotten a "bad" rap in relation to voodoo. I would not be surprised if that is used as a theme for a tours. I highly doubt that this would be my first choice but it would be a very different trip if I decide to.

I would tend to agree with Martin. I'm sure Haiti is a lovely place to vacation. But, like Jamaica, you don't leave the resort property.

I would figure the resort travel of Haiti is very similar to other Caribbean locations. I would have to agree that if you stay at a resort or spa you wouldn't be interacting with the locals too much. I am sure you would see more tourists then you would locals.

I'd rather just stick close to the hotel or go on a tour where it is supervised. I'm not one to venture out too much away from my hotel when I'm in a place that is unfamiliar to me.

I would go to any country and tour unsupervised! I had a friend that went to Jamaica years ago, and a local took them on a tour in a local cave for a few bucks! I can't believe they went! I reamed her out when she got back, they could have easily have gotten robbed and murdered!!

I assume you missed the word "not" in your post above.I bet they had a great time too and had a unique experience! The first day I was in Colombia I went on a tour with a local taxi driver... now I have several good taxi driver friends and someone calls out my name when I arrive at the airport! • Page 1 (Original Post) •
