What is the best island to visit? I am planning a trip for December. I don't want to spend too much money, but don't want to be cheap either. I want to relaaaaaaaaaaaxxxxxxxxxxxxxx! And maybe meet some nice people too.

Also, will I need a passport?

Well if you want the ultimate in rest and relaxation, visit Anguilla (British West Indies). http://www.anguilla-vacation.com/

Another great site. I added a link to make it easy to get to.

Here is a tidbit to get you started. Follow the link for more great information on Anguilla

---

Ours is a tiny island with a big reputation. With a population of some 12,000, Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory, 16 miles long, and 3 miles at her widest point. Boasting 33 white sand beaches with crystal clear waters, a contemporary international style, extraordinary vistas, world-class accommodations and mouth-watering cuisine, Anguilla is the culmination of your search for the idyllic tropical escape.

In my view Aruba is the best I have seen. I am yet to vist there but have seen lots of article about the island.

I also think Aruba is the best by far!

It is such a relaxing and claming place and also so very beautiful.

I want to go there again, better yet I would love to move there!

I vote for San Andres, Colombia. (Don't let the colombia part scare you).

It might be a little harder to get to (you probably have to go through San Jose Costa Rica, Panama City, or Bogota. Once you get there you'll find it well worth the effort.

Quiet, peaceful, the water is wonderful and you can see 7 colors from the higher points of the island. Good shopping, good food, everyone is friendly. Security is excellent.

What you won't find is many Americans. That gives it a whole different flavor. Mostly is a vacation spot for the better off Colombians (hence the security is good).

Check out out next time your ready to go relax in the sun.

I have to vote for Aruba. I loved being there. It is an amazing place and very beautiful. I haven't been to the other islands but that was enough for me. I definitely plan on going back in the near future.

Since your traveling in December i would also choose Aruba. It is on an average 80 degrees year round. They have a really nice nightlife: casinos, clubs, shopping. The Island has a dutch influance as well. Its clean. The only draw back or what people are not expecting is the dry flat land. No lush and tropical as some of the other caribean islands.

What's this the Aurba Public Relations Department? Look at a map and you'll see the vast area of Caribbean Islands... if you've been to one already, pick another one this year.

The key word was December vacation travel. Aruba is always warm year round. I can see why everyone mentioned it. although Jamaica is nice and toasty to year round.

Thank you for these suggestions. Looking into taking a vacation. These will definetilly help me to make a decision on where to go. Glad I ran across this site.

Im surprised no one mentioned St Lucia. The island is so lush and tropical. Very close to Hawaii in appearance. The beaches arent white sandy but still its really exotic looking i would think it would be high on the list of must see and best caribbean choices. I mean Aruba is nice but its not as beautiful as St Lucia.

St Lucia is one of the most goegeous places in the world I agree.

I have never been to Aruba personally. But I do have a friend that plans on getting married their. I have done alot of research on the internet just trying to find out things for her. I would have to say from what I have seen Aruba would be a great place for a vacation. It seems to have alot of nice hotel, beaches and a lot of fun things to do. I am hoping to go to Aruba next year. Cannot wait.

I have heard that teh quality of the hotels and hotel staff are the best in Aruba, what more can you want I think? Kind people, a great atmosphere and the best hotels.

Please visit the Bahamas with a temparature of 60-75 deg F during the winter season and with mainly English speaking people you will enjoy your stay there.

I have been to the Bahamas, Aruba and St. Lucia. Of these, I would pick St. Lucia. It is absolutely beautiful. We visited there on a cruise. Aruba is very expensive and I thought the locals were not very friendly. The snorkeling is good there, though. The Bahamas just isn't what it used to be, unless you go to the Atlantis on Paradise Island (so I've heard).

Hi everyone; i would like to know if either of these two places (Aruba or St. Lucia) are swarmed with natives trying to sell you stuff and take you on adventures. I have heard the Bahamas is really bad with that. Can anyone help me out?

Comment #20 Lee from Montevideo, Uruguay (Contact Member) -

Your best bet is San Andres, Colombia. There are very few natives trying to sell you stuff. There is plenty of stuff to buy, but no one is hounding you. Santa Marta, Colombia isn't bad either, but its not an Island.

I was wondering where the best remote island vacation spots are. I wanna be able to sit on the beach without thousands of people, I love peace and quite!!! Being able to sit in a lawn chair on the beach with a book in one hand ond a margarita in the other with NO people around is my dream vacation!!! Any suggestions???? Staying in a villa would be nice.

Comment #22 Lee from Montevideo, Uruguay (Contact Member) -

I just answered you in #20... there also some beaches that take a 3 hour walk in the woods to get to near Santa Marta... some of 2 of those were pretty much void of people.

, San Andres: San Andres Beach
I realize a photo is worth 1, 000 words... so have a look at the main beach in San Andres... if you click on the photo for a larger view, you'll see 2 people in the water and no one on the beach.

Ok... enjoy. I suppose it is a remote island as you can't flight from the USA to San Andres.

, Santa Marta: Santa Marta Beach
Ok, here is a nice shot of a beach in Santa Marta, Colombia. Ok, I realize this isn't an island, but it might has well be with the 3 hour walk in through the woods to get here!

I does qualify as Caribbean I think as its on the northern coast of Colombia on the Altanic Ocean.
