What is a Time Share?!

I have never heard of this term? From other posts, it seems that it's property that people "share"? How does that work?

You know a Condo. Everyone buys some space (an Apt) in a building. A time share is the same thing, except everybody buys some time in an Apt.

For example you might buy the 3rd week of May. Then you get to use your Apt only the 3rd week of May.

Time share can be ANY vacation property. It can be a condo, a bungalow, a camping site. You spend a LOT of money up front to buy the property for the time that's yours. Then you have to pay maintenance fees on it monthly. You do not get to stop paying these fees. If you want to sell your timeshare, good luck.

I don't know how popular it is. It may be something that was very popular and everyone was doing it and now they wish they hadn't and they're trying to sell their time. If you go to a timeshare presentation you can get some good freebies out of it. But those salespeople are the hardest sell people around. They do not want you to leave. There was an episode of South Park about timeshare sales pitches and it was right on.

How can I find out how to get a timeshare. I would like to find a website or any additional information would help. Years ago, a lady I worked with had a timeshare in the mountains of Colorado, but they never went so it wasn't even worth the money. But, if I purchased a timeshare, I would definately use it often!

More than likely just somewhere in the United States. Travel outside of the states as often as I want would be hectic. I would prefer something in either Florida or South Carolina. Any site or even phone numbers would be very helpful.

Our friend's family has a timeshare in Mexico. They all take turns using it and it has worked out really well for them. Each year they do the schedule so that holidays are rotated. I wish I could get into one. I'd love it!!

Honeyblossom, I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem finding a resale timeshare in the area you want. I Googled timeshare South Carolina, so you could do the same for Florida.

I recently bought one on the gulf coast and love it. I didn't think I would actually buy one but it is a lot cheaper than constantly renting hotel rooms.
