Why take your computer?

Tell us about your favorite Wi Fi hotspot for high speed internet in the Carribean

I can understand if your on a business trip taking your laptop. But I just no if I was on a vacation I would not want to take my laptop. I'm connected to it enough as it is. Just my opinion on the subject.

I *CAN* travel... *IF*... I can check on things at the office. For example rather than a weekend escape... I can get away for a week or two and really do little work. But if there is a crises things will be ok.

It really irks me that hotels will say they have "internet access" but give no details on their website. One hotel in Panama said they had wifi access, but not specifics as it whether it was in each room or just in a business center. When I called they said it was available in the room, but you had to pay 5 cents a minute for the phone line! Yeah! Right.

It would be so easy to give the tech run down on their websites -- and they would probably get a lot of business from those that cared. If I have a choice of hotels I will always chose the one that is clear about their internet access.

Well, I am not sure about this, but I think Wi-Fi spots are developed only to give visitors / dignitaries the facility to check Internet "FREE OF CHARGE". I don't think they should charge for giving access.

I have a blackberry so I can stay in touch with the office that way. Internet connections isn't that good, but better than lugging around a laptop risking getting it broken or stolen.

Well some people rely on the internet to communicate with their friends and stay in touch. Even some people rely on the internet to make phone calls such as Deaf people who use the relay services via AIM. I guess it really depends on how long one wants to go away for too.

I can't live without my laptop. Well, that's an exaggeration but I really bring my laptop all the time.

I have to constantly check my e-mails and surf. It's like a little addiction.

Comment #6 Milly18 from my little office -

With everything running on technology these days, it is hard to do live without the laptops. It is the cell phones that bother me. People can't seem to live without them. I can understand for emergencies, but to chat with friends about what your doing now etc.... just irks me.

I forgot about cellphones. I can't live without my cellphone. I don't use it to chat with my friends or anything like that. I use it for business.

Comment #8 sundance from hidden hills -

I usually use mine for business and unfortunately even on "vacation" I still need to keep either my cell or laptop going.
